- Using third-party apps
- Using Emulators for your Mac
- Accessing Instagram on your Safari
As you know, Instagram isn’t officially supported on Mac computers so there is no Instagram app for your Mac. However, there are some workarounds you can use to get it working on your Mac. In this article, we will describe 3 possible ways you can use to get it working like on your iPhone.
Using third-party apps
You can use third-party apps on your Mac to get almost all the Instagram’s functionalities that you have on your iPhone.
Instagram on Mac using Flume App
One of the most popular application is Flume. It allows you to see your Instagram’s feed, comment, like and share photos and to upload your own photos and videos. The app itself offers a cool experience in a stylish way, different than the original Instagram app for iPhone. Flume includes Instagram Direct, so it allows you to chat with other people and share photos/videos.
For liking and sharing content, you will need to press the picture or video you choose and then the options for liking and sharing will appear. If you want to upload a picture, you will need to hover your mouse to the left bottom of the app and the options for uploading will appear.
One more thing to mention, there is a limited number of photos you can upload from Flume, so when you reach the limit, you will need to buy Flume Pro if you want to keep on using it. The app is no longer supported on Mac App Store, you can only download it here, at their official website.
Instagram on Mac using Uplet App
Another application worth mentioning is Uplet, which allows you to upload photos and videos within a few seconds. Instagram feed is not supported, you can only upload and edit your pictures/videos. It allows you to crop images, resize them, add captions and other similar options. It’s no longer supported on Mac App Store, so you will have to download it here.
Using Emulators for your Mac
Another way of getting your Instagram to work on your Mac is using emulators. Basically, you will need to download a program which will run like it’s your Android device, from which you can download Instagram and use it.
The emulator we recommend it Bluestacks, which you can download here. After you download it, you will need to create Bluestacks and Google account (if you don’t have one already). You will log in with those accounts and head to the PlayStore and download Instagram.
Accessing Instagram on your Safari
You will just need to open your Safari browser on your Mac and go to www.instagram.com and log in to your account. After you log in, you will see your Instagram’s feed and you can like and share pictures/videos from there.
But the only thing that’s different from the iPhone app is that you can’t upload pictures/videos from there. However, there is a workaround for that. To get it working, you will need to open Safari and open Preferences -> Advanced and make sure that Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar is enabled.
After that, return back to the http://www.instagram.com. Now go to Develop -> User Agent -> Safari and select iOS 10 – iPhone. Instagram’s site will now reload and you will see that site open’s up in a mobile version.
You are now able to upload your pictures but not your videos. That may be a big downside of this method, but if you mostly upload pictures, this won’t be a problem.
