It’s a widely-known fact that Apple iPhone models usually get a sister or brother after the initial release of a flagship phone. For instance, there’s the SE model which is smaller but with strong capabilities, and the Plus model which is essentially a bigger, broader and bulkier version. Seeing as the iPhone X has been out for a while now, it’s only a matter of time until we’ll get a new version. And all signs are pointing towards the iPhone X Plus.
What currently know is that Apple will be releasing 3 iPhones this year. Unlike previous years, there will be two high-end models and only one budget model. One of these models will certainly be the iPhone X Plus. In terms of screen size, the iPhone X is more similar to the iPhone 8 and the Plus, so extra screen size is certainly needed. For watching movies, videos, and just general everyday usage, the Plus certainly reigns supreme – and hopefully, with the iPhone X Plus, it will be no different.
In terms of features, the X Plus will have an improved screen resolution. The current iPhone X boasts 458 PPI (pixels per inch), but with the Plus we could see a number from 480 to 500. There will also be more sound grills at the bottom of the phone so that music and sound can be played louder, and so that the volume ultimately matches up with the larger screen size.
However, and surely to some people’s disappointment, there’s no hope of the old fingerprint mechanism coming back. Apple sees Face ID as the future, and they’re sticking to it. Dan Riccio, the chief hardware Engineer at Apple, recently said: “So we spent no time looking at fingerprints on the back […] or on the side because if we did those things, which would be a last-minute change, they would be a distraction relative to enabling the more important thing that we were trying to achieve, which was Face ID done in a high-quality way.”
When should we expect the iPhone X Plus? Apple usually unveils new iPhones in September, so we’ll almost certainly be seeing the three new phones being announced then.
