Even though iPhone’s and iPad’s screen is good enough for mobile use, you still want some content to be displayed on a bigger screen. That is why we will explain in this article how to connect your Apple Device to your TV. It’s not very hard to do, but some extra adapters are needed.
How to connect wirelessly (with Apple TV):
If you own an Apple TV this will be very easy to do. Using the feature AirPlay you can share connect from your device to the Apple TV wirelessly. To set this up, your Apple TV must be connected to the internet and to the TV via HDMI. Now you will need to select the desired output on your TV where Apple TV is connected and you can start streaming. Now if you want to stream a video, you need to open up a video on your iPhone or iPad and open up Control Centre (swipe up from the bottom of the screen) where you need to tap on AirPlay. Select Apple TV and start the video to begin streaming. Some applications have their own AirPlay button at the bottom of the screen so look out for that.
If you are interested in streaming your whole iPad screen whatever you do, you can use AirPlay Mirroring. You can access it by opening up Control Centre (swipe up from the bottom of the screen) and tapping on the AirPlay Mirroring button.
If you want to share pictures or music on your TV via AirPlay, you can also do that with your Apple TV. Simply open up a picture you would like to share a press the Share button and choose Apple TV. If you want to show more pictures one after the other, you can just tap on Slideshow button after pressing Share button. To share music on your screen you need to open up a Control Centre and press AirPlay and choose Apple TV. After that, you just start your music and it will begin playing on your TV.
How to connect with a cable:
You will need a Lightning Digital AV Adapter to connect your iPhone/iPad to your TV. The price of this adapter is around 50 GBP and you will also need to purchase one HDMI cable since it doesn’t come with the adapter. This adapter has one HDMI port to plug into the TV, a Lightning connector (output) which you plug into your iPad or iPhone, and another Lightning port (input) which you can use to charge your iPad or iPhone at the same time. It’s very simple to connect it, connect iPhone/iPad to a Lightning connector on the adapter and adapter’s HDMI to the TV. Choose the correct output on your TV to which you connected HDMI and start playing your video from your Apple Device. If your device’s screen on the TV is a little blurry or shown in the lower resolution at the start of the streaming, don’t panic, it will turn to full quality just after a few seconds.
If you own older iPhone/iPad that doesn’t have a Lightning port, you can buy Apple Composite AV Cable which you can use to connect your device to the TV. You will need to use the composite video input on your TV instead of HDMI, and you will be able to just watch SD quality since HD isn’t supported.
