Hundreds of disgruntled 30GB Zune users on the official Microsoft Zune forums are reporting that, as of 12:00 AM Pacific time, their devices are no longer functional. The digital players are not responding to typical reboot sequences and, so far, the only user-provided solution involves cracking the back off the device. The bug appears to be similar to the Y2K bug that affected some electronic devices and software systems at the beginning of the millennium. There is no word from Microsoft yet on any reasons or solutions for this problem. There is no indication that iPod devices will be affected by this bug, which seems to be constrained only to a specific Zune model.

As a reminder, please keep comments on this story mature. In particular, there is no need to flame Zune users.

    That blows.
My iPod Touch quit working last night around midnight or later.
Took a few hours for it to start working again.
But while it was down I could only load apps and then they'd return to the front screen.

Download a new app and run it, then the rest of your apps will work properly.

I feel a great disturbance in the force, as though millions of Zunes cried out in pain and terror and were suddenly silenced.

I fear something dreadful has happened.

I'd be gutted if this happened... I hope Microsoft do replace them all or at least do some sort of software/firmware update... (Can you have f/w updates on Zunes?? Idk..)
