zip file?

    hi when i have accquired the 2.1 file it is identified as a zip file

    but i need to install a ipsw file

    am i making a rookie mistake?

    nay idea where i get the ispw file?

    I wondered the same thing. Finally found the answer somewhere. DO NOT UNZIP the .zip file you downloaded. Just RENAME it by replacing .zip with .ipsw
    Put that file in the iPod Software Updates folder, then start iTunes. You shold then be offered and update to 2.1
    Make sure you are using the 5F137 version of the firmware for an original, first generation iPod Touch.

    yeh this is a weird one. on the gizmodo site.. someone simply suggested replacing the file name to be .ipsw instead of .zip and i guess it worked... i simply dl'ed a bit ******* file from limewire after doing a google search on it.... it worked like a charm.. easy as 1-2-3-...
