Since today is January 1st, anyone that purchased an iPod touch 1st-generation anywhere from September to December 2007 is now out of warranty!

So basically, unless you got Apple Care or an in-store warranty, anyone that got a 1st-gen iPod touch for Christmas 2007 is now out of warranty for good.

They will give you a couple extra weeks at the Apple Store

Really? I was at the Apple Store yesterday in Walden Galleria (Buffalo) and they wouldn't let it slide.

I purchased mine in January and it said mine was up in December. I showed my proof of purchase.

I ran into an issue with trying to extend the warranty on my ipod photo back in 2006 - found out the hard way that you can actually purchase the warranty online but if you're even one day over warranty they won't allow you to activate it and will fight tooth and nail to refund your $.

That doesn't sound right because Apple provides an automatic 1-year warranty if you purchase an iPod touch brand new.
