Now what does THIS mean? There is no charge for Activation. Which probably means you can use your existing AT&T plan with the iPhone 3G without attaching any useless Data Plan to it. After all, it IS Still a Cell Phone.

REMEMBER: ACTIVATION IS NOT THE SAME AS UNLOCKING

the 3g iphone will turn into a pretty little paper weight once someone tries to unlock it.

I don't believe he was comparing the pricing of the two, he was just deciding on purchasing one or the other. Although, you're Teslanaut, so I'll likely be seeing a harsh argument in the next reply of yours. Or, you'll not reply at all, just to argue the point that I think you will.

Explain your reasoning to me, every device is hackable 1st of all. Not to mention it doesnt vary much from the 1st iphone, its just the devs need to jailbreak 2.0 and then you will be able to pwn and unlock it easily....

Trust me the devteam will be on top of this, they know what they are doing, and this will be unlocked....

    Also @Teslanaut

I think you might be able to leave apple stores without activating it and then do a similar process to the 1st gen iphone... But I am quite sure that you will have to activate in a at&t store, also there is no way to excape the 2 year contract, and I am sure you can cancel the data plan after you start the contract.

Also as for the number porting, they do this to all customers "upgrading" to a iphone. The process is similar to customers in family plans and ect from the 1st gen iphone.

Great find! Although I really was not concerned one bit about this activation in store thing. There will always be other ways to get an iphone besides walking in there your self and buying it. But this will definitely make it easier.

Im not leaving you T-Mobile dont worry.

i have friends that work at the apple store that know about it. the security will be much tighter and once the phone is unlocked it basically kills itself
