Okay, so here's the short version.

I tried a zillion and one times to restore and it FINALLY worked.

MY only problem is that the device continually resets itself, and refuses to stay connected to iTunes long enough to get more than 10-15 songs on it before it resets.

The device works, unjailbroken iPod touch 2g FW version 4.1

Why on earth is my device being strange now, I don't want to deal with the constant resetting, can somebody out there please please help me?

i have the same problem, eventually i gave up, i cant run iOS for more than 5 seconds without a random reset, and it wasnt even jailbroken. now, i cant restore, so the best use i have for it now is to use it for a 10% discount towards a new iPod touch at an Apple Store.

Ok, if you ever changed your HOSTS file (to use saved SHSH Blobs) change it back to what it was before. [If you don't know what I'm talking about, then ignore that part]
    Now, go to My Computer> C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Account Name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.
Delete the folder "iPod Software Updates" (Yes, delete the WHOLE folder)
Reboot your computer, open iTunes, and click Restore.
It will download the FW, and Restore your iPod with it.

    Problem Fixed!
