Hi good people of the forum. In the thread below this industrious guy has successfully ported a divx decoder to the iphone/touch and is looking for help building a gui and synching the audio and video.

    From hackintosh.org :
thread title: "XVIDCore library ported to Iphone looking for UI developer"
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20044

    Cheers!

Not bad. Good to hear someone's working on it, as I hate converting stuff to H.264 format, as I never use it for anything but putting things on my iPod, and it's a pain in the ass having to transcode stuff that I've got in DivX/XviD that works in every other device I own without any conversion. (TCPMP FTW!)

You would still have to convert it for the iPod Touch resolution wouldnt you?

The problem with this is that divx movies are usually 700mb where an mp4 is only 200-300mb large. With the small hard drive the Touch comes with, I prefer to convert to the smaller more compressed file.

Format has little to do with size*. It's all about quality settings when you compress/convert. The mp3 is only 200-300 megs because you've set a low quality. DivX movies can be easily that small, you just have to use lower quality compression, same as with MP4.

    * Yes, I know some formats do create inherently larger files; I'm mostly referring to modern, lossy, compressed formats like DivX/XviD, H.264, SMR, etc.

There are lots of different ones. Just google "Windows DivX encoder" (or replace Windows with Mac if you swing that way.)

Sweet! Finally a different video format we'll be able to play if this comes out.
