JUST LAY IT DOWN! Seriously. It makes sense if you think about it. If you keep a disc standing up it going to have a lot of wiggle room causing it to scratch the disc. If you keep it down it has none at all thus no scratches.

Is this a well known xbox problem? My PS3 has been used in the upright position since I bought it a few years ago.

Perhaps it's due to the continuous pull of gravity, or perhaps it's just due to the fact that I take good care of my stuff, But I have never had my PS3 just tip over.

Also, I have never had discs get starched inside the machine.

Obviously it doesn't just randomly fall over or scratch your disc, it has to be caused by a jolt or some sort of movement. It's more likely to damage the console if your console is upright though, that's why people are recommending that he lays it down flat so these problems don't arise.

It could happen on any console, not just Xbox, although phat PS3s are very sturdy when upright. :D

Your Xbox will only get hot enough to damage it if you put in a place with bad ventilation. Keep it off carpet and it'll be fine.

    Just lay it down. -.-

Geeze...everyone has been trying to help and you keep on countering everyone with the same questions. What does smell have to do with anything? Are you going to actually smell the console or something?
