Wouldn't a remote lockdown feature be nice?

That way, if someone (not the type of thief you would call the police on) found your iPod and cracked your passcode, you could just log in to a little online "control panel" and command the iTouch to immediately lock and disable the unlock slider? Then when you have your iTouch back just log back in and disable the lockdown. Of course, this would only be useful if the iPod Touch is connected to WiFi.

This functionality would be easily circumvented- don't connect to any Wifi networks until you restore it.

MobileMe offers a feature similar to this, plus their email service, calendar service, and iPhone/iPod touch locator service are all excellent. With the MobileMe service you can also remotely wipe the iDevice, display a message on the screen, and play a sound that will not stop.

    Of course, it costs money.

Yeah, Find My iPhone, which is for iPhones only, as they're generally connected to a network.

I am really thinking about paying for MobileMe. It looks pretty cool. Is there anyway I can try it like a trial?

There is a 60 day trial for it.

Then what if iTunes checks to see if the iTouch was stolen? Then iTunes would refuse a restore.

You don't need to be connected to the Internet to restore an iPod.
