There are commercial linux distros out there. Just because its Linux, doesn't mean its all Free and Open Source.

It's not like all distros of Linux would be commercial.

This is kind of like asking "would you pay for software". No one will say "yes" indefinitely, but stubborn people will say "no". And beyond that, I'm essentially paying for a much-improved Linux by using Mac OS X.

I use linux because of free software. If i only had to pay for the OS and the software was free still i guess i would.

    I'm sorry, but what?

Mac OS X is BSD based. BSD is UNIX based. Linux is a clone of UNIX.

Mac is not an improved Linux, for two reasons. One, it's not Linux (although they both have a similar rootfs, that's under the Single UNIX Specs), and two, it's not improved.

no, I won't pay for commercial linuxes under the circumstand that there are only commercial linuxes....

because the free distros live from the community work and therefore the opensource. With closed source and with only one company able to change the source there will be alot of security holes and lacked features....opensource communities fix the holes very quickly and add important and wanted features in a short time

the security holes issues are pointed into the direction of server-linuxes

Linux, being gpled can be shared freely and any commercial distro's can still be shared for free with full rights. Furthermore, GPL forces the creator to offer the full source code for free.
