I have a 1st 16gb iPod Touch for over a year now and it was jailbroken for a while on 1.1.3 (I never bothered to check for updates at one point).

I've been thinking about updating to a 2nd gen, but is it really worth it? Thus far, the only thing that I've seen that is really impressive about the 2nd gen is the extended battery life and the external speakers (VoIP is something I would use quite a bit).

I don't know if it's better to pay 10 dollars and update to 2.2 and jailbreak it, or try and sell this iPod to put towards a 2nd gen. Thoughts?

Yeah, save for an iPhone. Or you can wait for the new iPod and iPhone. (If there is one, which is most likely.
