So, I was playing with my iPod and the screen kept flickering on different brightnesses. Then the backlight turned off.

I check my schedule to see if I can go to the Genius Bar tomorrow to get it fixed. I come back, and the light is on. Then it goes to sleep, I awake it and the light is off again. I keep getting this flickering then the backlight going off.

Has anybody else ever had this problem?

It's and iPod touch 3G 32GB on 4.1 unjailbroken. I had it replaced about a month ago because of home button troubles.

    And it did it again.

    I've never had that problem.

Apple should take it without any problems.

You should take a time lapse video so that they don't think your lying.

It hasn't happened since last night, but I still would like to know it's fine, as my warranty expires in November.

Its not fine. That is the normal way the backlight dies.
    It is gradual.

There is no way it's auto-brightness. I happened today outside school today in the bright sunlight.

Yeah, I meant that I would take it to the Apple Store and talk to them, but I haven't had the chance.

lol even with the autobrightness off it shouldnt do that! I think it is a defect.. the only flickering i had was in ios 3 when i sat in the dark looking at the homescreen... that is normal (i think) cuz it happened to my friend too.. but if the screen just randomly turns off, that is a problem..
