    Hey guys.
Is there any app, to use Protected Wlan Networks? I think it would very nice to be able to use nearly all Hot-spots ;-)
With a Pc, it's possible to crack a WEP-Key within some seconds, so why not write an app for the ipod touch which can do that?!

Well there is one being worked on, but I personally think an app like this will be useless. It could take over 30 minutes to crack a WEP, and this process will dramatically drain your battery.

I don't think that it is useless.
There is a method to crack WEP-Keys in just some seconds. I read it in a cracking forum, but it has been busted by the german gouvernment -.-
Also, some students of an university in the USA developed a program for Cracking Wep-keys. A CPU with 300Mhz took about 20 sec. for it.
I don't think that an Ipod will be MUCH more slower.
Why do u think that it is useless to know the WEP-Keys in the Bars and Caf├ęs in your city?!

No, most don't even know the difference nor even know what they mean.
I mean 90% of home users. I setup networks for users.... trust me.

The latest wep crackers out can crack wep in seconds. There will be a few soon, don't worry.

    Jep
I just used a simple stumbler app. on my Ipod Touch in the middle of my city. (300.000 inhabitants).
There were about 20 available Wlan-Networks with a good signal. More than 50% used WEP even if they are Hotspots and not a Wlan from an inhabitant

I dont see how people could advocate such an application?

What would be your justification for using such and application?

this would be awesome. no doubt. however, seeing how Kismac STILL hasn't been ported to work in passive mode in Intel Macs and is now having trouble with Leopard, to do this which who knows what chipset on the Touch would be no mean feat. Not impossible, and I would love it, but not holding my breath.
