Google Maps uses online data. You cannot use it without a WiFi connection.

If you haven't restarted since the last time you used it, it will show your last screen, but you can't search or move.

As for using your phone for a connection, there's a thread on the mods section about a 3G Touch using a phone connection. Take a look.

I've seen a topic on this but i dont understand the concept. I thought 3g was just a way mobile phone companies accepted their satellite feed. Like the helio. What would that do in relation to my pod.

I think he was leaning more towards the fact that your stupidity should result in you not being allowed to. Lets reason, does e-mail require internet? YES! Meaning Mail.app OBVIOUSLY requires internet. Also, if you would SEARCH from google or even APPLE you find that as long as you're in a wifi available proximity internet is available.

EDIT: my mistake, i thought that post said mail but still, its highly doubtful seeing as google earth requires an internet connection.

O yes MY stupidity. because when you use a gps in a car you need to have an internet connection. I thought it downloaded a map of the country like a DATABASE on your touch that you could refer to 24/7.
