    Hi all,

I'm new to Jailbreaking and I seem to have made a right mess of it.

In summary of what I have done:

    - Jailbroke ipod touch 2g using Voltage.
    - Installed winterboard while untethered.
    - Rebooted ipod touch as instructed (this is where the mistake was I think).

    Now:
    - Ipod touch screen is black and it doesn't respond in any way (not even to go into DFU mode)
    - "USB not recognised" error message comes up when I plug it into the PC, so can't even restore via itunes.

    Any ideas?

    Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

    Cheers,
    Goodlad

Try unplugging it and then plug in the same or another usb and try dfu again. No worries it will work!

You're on a tethered jailbreak. You have to use a booter to boot, and then you can jailbreak untethered; consult a guide. Or try to go directly from tethered to untethered (http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155813).

    You haven't done anything wrong

DFU mode will work, just switch USB ports and reboot.

your ipod is tethered jailbroken and what happened is normal, untethered is released now so u will have to put it in DFU Mode, restore in itunes and then jailbreak with something like quick freedom. YOUR IPOD IS NOT BRICKED.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks everyone for your help. The trouble is that I cannot get the ipod recognised by any computer that I plug it into, it keeps popping up with the 'USB device not recognised' system bar popup window when I try and put it into DFU mode.

Without being able to connect it to a computer, I can't restore / untether / reboot / do anything.

I'm at a loss to work out what to do! Any more suggestions before I do use it to stop paper blowing away in the wind?

DFU mode can be tricky cos you need to get the timing right. open up the clock on your taskbar and use that for precise timing. Hold both buttons for 10 seconds then release power but keep holdong home. it will go in there eventually.

I feel a bit stupid now. It was because I wasn't holding the buttons for exactly the right period of time to get the ipod into DFU mode.

Thanks to everyone's patience with this n00b.

Next step: untethering, when no doubt I will be in touch for more stupid questions!
