    First of all - I'm a "dummy"!

I've performed the "Jailbreak" on my ipot. I now want to get some apps on it using "WinSCP".

When I open up WinSCP, it asks for some info that I don't know where to get it from:

    Host name (?)
    User name (?)
    Password (?)
    Private key file (?)

Maybe I'm too much of a newb to be messing with jailbreak?

(My dock images have gone to the top of my display too!)

Should I just "recover" my ipot, or keep trying, what dya think?

    Device:
    iPhone 3G (Black)
Host name = ip address of your wifi connection. get this from the settings menu
    User name = root
    Password = alpine
Private key file = not needed

A lot of the apps can be installed via the installer app on the "desktop" of the touch. Go for it, if you break something you can always restore the ipod.

Hate to say it but a search would have found a guide to this. Nonetheless, if you haven't read a guide about this part I'm thinking you'll be a bit lost when it comes to the others, so here's some useful posts.

If you're putting iPhone apps on the ipod, which I'm guessing you are if you're not using installer.app, use this method: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14748&postcount=1

The above doesn't mention how to actually put the files on in detail, but this post does: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15222&postcount=39

The second post doesn't mention how to change the permissions in detail (to stop the crashes), but this does: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15164&postcount=32

All posts from this thread: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1659
Even if you're not installing iPhone apps, the same basics apply.

You're not too much of a "newb" to jailbreak. After some reading of the basics anyone is capable, I had my ipod jailbroken after about 10 minutes of coming across this website, but made some mistakes. So read up first!

    Thanks for the reply.

I got my ipot 2 weeks ago and have been on this site virtually every day since. I've used the search button numerous times, but couldn't find the info I wanted. Sometimes there is too much info for a newb to take in!

The info you are pointing me to is great, and thanks for taking the time
