Would the plastic on the back of the iPhone 3G be improved by the 3rd gen? I'm looking into buying the iPhone 3G yet as many of you know, cracks easily appear near the headphone jack and the mute switch.

There was only this problem with a certain model which was produced shortly after release. I have never had it though

A year?! The iPhone 3G has only been out for 6 months...
I just want to know if this is a problem, but I might just get an iPhone 3G in July, after the updates.

The iPhones in the apple stores are wicked cracked. All around the dock and headphones is like 50 cracks, lol. People aren't gonna want them if they pick one up and see how bad the material is.

Yeah, Apple quality is really going downhill. Instead of wasting their money on gigantic 100x50m iPod nano ads (I know what I'm talking about, I saw one here in Berlin and the American ones must be twice as big

) and jailbreak prevention ("security"), they should spend it on an appropriate Quality Control system in those Chinese factories. I know, economic efficiency and stuff, but DUDE, in a few years iPods will be manufacured at cheap Chinese knockoff quality!

And anyway, I really do want them to update the quality of it. But I guess I'll be waiting for some extra features in the next major update

these cracks must be related to use, ie the headphones that come with it go at a 180 deg angle from the iphone which would cause tension in a pocket whereas the ones i use come out at a 90 deg angle which fits flush also in the apple stores people are like 'its not my phone why be gentle'

also ive dropped my yiphone 3g millions of times and it seems pretty rugged (though only on laminate not concrete lol)

You could take it back to Apple, since it is a hardware fault, and you only had it for 2 days.
