    I live in an area with no 3g. However everyone's iphones work just fine, just on the slower evdo network.

    Will the ipad 3g function like this as well?

    It will work on:
    * UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    * GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

    You sure your on an evdo and not an edge network?

    AT&T does not have EVDO, we have EDGE. But to answer your question, I would think that the data would work on EDGE on the iPad, but I haven't read anything for sure.

    Since you have verizon apperently (based on your asking about EVDO) and the iPad uses AT&T you may have their 3G, HSDPA (I believe). So 3G might be available, regardless you probably have some AT&T signal that will work on the iPad.

    The iPad comes unlocked so you don't have to be on AT&T...

    In Canada Telus and Bell both provide the iPhone 3g which have 3G (HSDPA) as well as EVDO. In regards to your question, if this is what you are asking about, I am not sure if it would work on their EVDO networks. I am guessing it would if it can run on EDGE, but as posted above EDGE is explicitly mentioned as supported, where there is no such documentation on EVDO. I would say buy it and worst case scenario return it.
