    Okay here's the scoop

My iPod is on, and connected to iTunes.

    - I hold home and sleep until it turns off and is removed from iTunes
    - I let go of sleep and hold home
    - Nothing happens

What the hell is going on? My iPod won't restore to the firmware I want and I can't even put it in DFU mode, what can I possibly be doing wrong.

You aren't supposed to let go of the home button only the power.

    1. Turn on iPod

    2. Hold home/power for 10 seconds (1 onethousand 2 onethousand exe.)

    3. Let go of power and hold the home button for about 30 seconds untill detected in iTunes.

I did, nothing came up. Now its in DFU mode but it still says the firmware can't be restored, even though my friend tried it and it worked for him.

Try it on a different computer, sometimes an error that happens on one computer doesn't happen on another.
