ok I wanna legally install the new firmware into my iPod touch but have about 12 gig worth of stuff on it, half of which ive deleted out of my computer!!!

Does that mean I'll lose everything that's not in my computer if I install?

So is it just the same to update instead of restoring?
    Thanks

I updated through iTunes, I paid the $10 expecting that if I buy the firmware my sh*t will stay on my iPod, but no! It all deletes and I wasted $10, and my music wasn't backed up, apple really should of warned me! So BACK Up YOUR SONGS BEfORE UPGRADInG, if you do...

Except that the idiots at Apple mentioned that a one time backup of ALL media would be done prior to upgrading to 2.0 Which was total BS because I lost everything on my ipod, included stuff I paid for. You can't even download again without paying a second time. Thanks Apple!

So , can someone confirm for me then? Will i be left with only the songs I have left in my computer if I buy the 2.0 firmware? Or will iTunes back up my iPod for me before it changes the software version?

A mate of mine said he had deleted loads of his music out of his computer but the upgrade to 2.0 was fine and all his files were still there. Dunno if he's bulls.h.itting me though?
