I am going to buy an ipod touch, but want the first gen more. (Jailbreak, I know 2g might come out soon, but from my experience with handheld/console hacking, the first system of that type to be hack is usually the best and has better compatibility.)

Would I be missing out on much? The only thing I am really worry about is the battery life on the first gen. Mostly for playing games and videos.

Patience is all you need for a better jailbreak experience. The iPods aren't like Sony PSP's when hacked, the abilities in jailbreak will be the same in 1G and 2G.

You will be missing out on the better battery life, internal speakers, volume controls and a faster processor.

Yes you will regret it, just get the 2nd gen, speaker is awesome, volume rocker, faster, cooler looking, thinner, etc.

The edges are thinner* The device itself is a tiny bit thicker, but it definitely does feel better in the hand.

Well yea, but if you explained it to someone you'd say it feels a lot thinner!

Both are good and bad for different reasons. No, you won't regret getting the first generation iPod touch.

I tried out on of my friends first gen, and I like the feeling more, I don't know why though. Second Gen is pretty slick though.
