Hey. I was wondering, before I started the jailbreak, will I lose my songs and videos when I do it?

You might. If you do it right the first time you won't.

It's a risk. If it doesn't work first time, you'll have a temporarily bricked Ipod, and so far there seems to be no alternative but to reset it, which will wipe it.

There are loads of apps out there that can 'backup' an Ipod though. If you do that first, you should be able to resynch it after, if it all goes tits-up.

I haven't used it, so at your own risk etc . . .

Yeah, assuming everything goes well on your first attempt, you won't lose your songs. But if anything goes wrong in the initial steps of jailbreaking, you will need to force a restore on it, and lost everything that is on the Touch.

I don't think the backup softwares will work on iPodTouch, as it doesn't have a storage mode. before it's jailbroken, there isn't a way to access the files (and hence the music) on it.

There are currently no back up programs that work with the touch. The touch does not have a disk mode so there is currently no way to take things off of the touch. I would suggest you use one of the automatic jailbreaks, it will give you a better chance that you won't loose your music.

Hmm. I didn't know that - good point, and apologies.

I assume once you've cracked it, you could back it up? I'm digging around in mine, but I can't see the tunes - I'd have thought they'd be in the /itunes_control/music subfolders, but mine appear to be empty.

sorry for bringing this thread up from the dead, but I was wondering about the 1.1.2 jailbreak -- will downgrading make me lose my songs? And doesn't iTunes automatically backup your ipod? when I plugged in my cousin's new ipod touch it asked me if I wanted to restore from my own ipod...

downgrading doesnt make you lose your songs, downrestoring does.

Can you elaborate? I have 1.1.2 and I know in order to jailbreak I must restore to 1.1.1 using the downloaded 1.1.1 ipsw file off of the Apple website. Will this delete my music?
