Is this a problem that can be fixed, or it is simply a bad side effect of jailbreaking?

I'm on a iPod 2G and wasn't thrilled with the lag, so I went back to jail.

It may be because you have to many programs running in the system memory.. Try a respring and then honestly it is just because the processor in the 2G isn't all that fast so by nature it will be kinda 'laggy'..

Actually, it is more often a lack of RAM problem than the processor.

Jailbreaks never slow down your device. What you install, however, does. Most Mobile Substrate addons will slow your device down the most. Everything else, however, is mostly fine.

I figured it was the hardware. I'm going to rejailbreak and disable multitasking because it's fairly useless anyway.

Does removing the.pngs make the interface look not as sexy?

Good because I didn't want to sacrifice the aesthetics. I kinda want to have everything I guess!

He was saying remove the png's assuming you were on jailbroken 4.0. If you do remove these pngs, you will see a big improvement.
These pngs are the shadow's behind the icons.
