Will DFU or Jailbreak erase data?

When I put my iPod Touch 2G into DFU mode during the jailbreak process, will it erase any of my data?

The thing I am more concerned about is when I restore using the custom firmware. This will erase my data, right? Because it is a new firmware? Is there anyway to avoid losing all my data like my high scores and Rolando progress?

    Thanks!

Short answer. Yes it will delete all your files (But iTunes will in most cases have a nearly full backup of the whole iPod

Well if youre lucky they would still be there (I hope iTunes acturally also backs that up (Something tells me that it does because with 9 pages of apps "backing up" takes AGES!).

after you plug it in and restore it to my ipod's backup of its last sync, will it restart? if so, I just run the boot commands right?
