So I have an 8GB 2nd gen that is 150 days out of warranty. It has a collection of dust underneath the screen and is extremely annoying. I called Apple about it and the guy said I could either pay $99 plus $6 shipping to get it fixed, or go to the Apple store to see what they can do.

So do you think they will repair/replace my device for free? I mean, I couldn't do anything to prevent dust getting underneath...

I don't think they'll replace it, but there's no harm in trying.

Here's a good rule of thumb, no company, that wants to stay in business, will ever give you anything for free.

Just go for it. It is possible that the guy will not check to see if it is still on warranty (highly unlikely, but worth a shot). Or he might just feel guilty. Either way bring it in, use your best persuasion skills and see if you can't score a brand new ipod touch.

Yeah, I think I'll go to the Apple store today and see if I can score a new one

I actually believe they WILL replace it, but only if you know how to work the "Apple support system". I have done it for years & it never fails. I am NOT saying you should do anything fraudulent...but I am saying to be clever & MAKE A GOOD CASE for yourself!
