    I don't think so.

If Apple ever planned to give them away for free they would have done it right from the start.

    did anyone watch the Keynote?
when Jobs announced that iPhone gets the full update free, everyone's applauding
but when he annnounced that 20 bucks for the iPhone, everyone fell to stunning silence
so this sums up that people want to get free updates, that's why they're called updates in the first place, not UPGRADE

Not necessarily. They've gotten tons of calls/emails regarding this issue, and I'm sure they've re-considered it all. I mean, honestly... Why pay $20 for apps that are now coming with 1.1.3 firmware store-sold iPods?... It simply does NOT make any sense, what-so-ever.
