will 8GB 2ND Gen be discontinued this year? like withing the next 12 months?

what im gonna do is: next month, buy 8GB 2nd gen from best buy here in canada. purchase the extended 2YR warranty for $80.00!!!!!!

and if/when 32GB goes down in price to $250.00-$300.00, take back 8GB and say its messed up "i can replace the boot file with a fake" so its WONT boot up...
i might have to pay restock fee... thats ok i guess... BUT..... the 8GB has to be discontinued before the "apple" 1 year warranty is up, or else bestbuy will use my extended 2YR to "replace" the 8GB, which i dont want to happen cause i might need that for the 32GB model.

    short of it is:
will 8GB model be discontinued within the next 12 months????

Damn, I really cannot stand people that are always trying to con Apple.

Just buy WHAT YOU NEED AND CAN AFFORD.

    End of it

8 gigs is the best selling model, why would it be discontinued?

Because they can make a iPod with more memory for the same price or even less.
The original iPod Touch 8gb cost $299 and a year later it decreaed 70 dollars. If it decreases anymore it will encroach the ipod nano's domain since the iPod nanos are in the 100-200 dollar range. And if they do that then one will flop and one will sell like hot cakes. Remember how the iPhone came in 4gb originally then it got discontinued? And it's not a good idea to try and con apple it just won't work. They would probably tell you to send in your iPod so they can fix it and when they find out you replaced the boot rom then they will return it to you since you broke the warranty.

The chances are that in September (usually when apple make iPod announcements) they will say that they are stopping making 8GB and there will be a new 64GB version.

Are you sure 8GB is the best selling?

The 32GB has been out of stock for a week now at Amazon.

yeah, i heard that 64GB was near, but rumour.
if they bring it out, 8GB will be gone bye-bye.
i c that future shop has a good replacement plan and they say that if u dont enjoy product fully, they will give u gift card for price of item so u can buy wutever u want.
like i said, if i buy from store, i will replace with newer/bigger model before "store" warranty starts, so as not to use "their" warranty for a simple "replacement" on a "functioning" device.

*** i dont consider it "ripping" anyone off.... they are still getting my money for the first purchase, AND any additional CASH i gotta fork out to upgrade to newer/ bigger capacity.

well 8 gb is more than enough memory so anymore than that is just a rip off (IMO)
