I could post this on the wiki2touch on3.0 thread but I think it's worth a new thread every FW, I want to put something out there for the Mac using minority.

Its been so long since wiki2touch was actively supported

Just to recap what is still true, and current step when usb transfers don't work and you are using the latest version of OSX and itunes

    Creating the articles.bin file:
you download the wikipedia dump from wikipedia
you convert it to the articles.bin file using the indexer

    jailbreaking 3.1.1
using pwntool 3.1, a gen1 IPT, an IPSW of 3.1.1
(I got mine via itunes as I can afford $5 even in a recession)
    created the custom IPSW
IMPORTANT Option restore after the putting the IPT into restore mode
(I messed this up the first time you don't want to know the drama if you unjailbreak your IPT)

    install the following from Cydia
openSSH,SBSettings, wiki2touch server, Wiki2touch SBSettings. (some install together, I think bossprefs may work alternatively)

    Transfer via wifi using Cyberduck
Used latest version of Cyberduck to ssh to the IPT, transfering articles.bin navigating to the following location: /var/mobile/Media/Wikipedia/en

This could been just me or it could be some evil of 3.1.1 but ssh wouldn't work at first. I fixed this by deleting the old host key in the mac's user../.ssh file
    in terminal:
    <code> pico .ssh/known_hosts </code>
then deleted all the code after the wifi IP address for the IPT. I hope you don't have to do this.

Change the permissions of the bin file by "right clicking on the file /information/ then check all boxes so its 777"
    Restart the IPT, wiki2touch works.

For those that can't jailbreak, there is an offline wikipedia reader though I'm not sure how good it is: look up steam heavy industries on itunes.

    Using mac 10.6.8, cyber

This doesn't work for me. I can't search. I get the following:

, but I can't search for anything. I tried permissions set to both 777 and 7777. Neither works. Thanks for the tutorial, though.

    No luck

It still won't work for me. Yes, I changed the permissions.

Scratch that. I found out I had a bad articles-en.bin file. Everything works now. Thanks!

updates on FirmWare 3.x wiki2touch installs

Just a quick update if someone finds this 2009 thread:
when jailbroken with Spirit everything is straightforward, and wiki2touch works on all devices pre 4 release.
note that at time of writing the current wikisrvd has been updated and is able to handle the greater than 4GB article.bin files.

this worked on both 3.1.2 and 3.1.3
