any one got this to work yet? i havent had a chance to try
nope didnt work for me
must be like a hack
Not possible. You would have to physically open the Wii and replace all the hardware inside with DVD reading hardware then use it.
Then how does the Wii play its DVD-based games? And yes, it does work, I've done it, you just need some codecs.
would you mind explaining?
Huh? It has a DVD Drive. It's the software that blocks movie playback. A simple homebrew app gets around this.
As stated above the Wii has the ability to play DVD but Nintendo decided not to licence it for cost reasons and so a standard Wii can't play them.
the Twilight hack seems to work flawlessy although there is some concern on DVD playing shortening the life of the Wii itself.
Lifehacker have just posted a very handy and simple tutorial http://lifehacker.com/400581/hack-your-wii-for-homebrew-apps-and-dvd-playback#viewcomments
Shame I don't feel like buying a Zelda game just to watch DVDs
you can just rent it. thats what i did
the homebrew channel is good for more than dvd playback, it can emulate old videogame systems and has lots o utilities that make it worth doing, especially for just the cost of a game rental.
