Wouldn't it be cool to have a wifi finder app

When ur at home u can go on wifi and it will list all the wifi locations on ur map app

so when u go out you know where the hotspots are

You can check out Stumbler, it will find all the networks in the area, even the ones that doesn't broadcast their SSID's and tell you a lot of details about them, it can't show the locations on the map app though.

i thought stumbler did show hidden networks?

and on topic, i would love this, but ud need some sort of system of long range wifi antennas that are sumhow connected to the internet to refresh and show the maps

in other words, its not happening =(

The simple Wifi Setup does autorefreshing, so it's good for just driving or walking around and seeing what is available.

Stumbler doesn't seem to autorefresh (glad to be told otherwise).

Mapping is obviously tough as you'd need signal strength from a number of locations to triangulate the transmitter... and you'd need to know where YOU are in the first place. Need a GPS.

But maybe something that compares signals as you walk along and says "You are getting Hotter/Colder" would be fun, if a little stalkerish.

stumbler shows all networks, hidden and broadcasted... but... doesnt tell you the ssin of the hidden, so defeats the purpose because you cannot connect to it... useless
