    Doesn't the 18-55mm come with the 3000?

For macro get the 60mm f/2.8. For portrait shots, go get the Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4

Just get a zoom lens. You don't need a wide angle or macro or anything fancy like that if you haven't begun to even use the camera yet.

The prime wins for image quality and speed, but you should be more focused (lolpun) on your framing and composition rather than specs.
If you're just starting out, go for the zoom. You'll find it more convenient and versatile to use than the 16mm.

    I cringe to hear a lens called a 'pancake'…

they call it "pancake lens" cause its small and compact.
i think im going with the pancake, i made my decision because i take alot of portraits, cats, parties and cars (i love doing this, problem?), but i rarly take landscape pics, so the prime lens is good for me, thanks for the help BTW.

Fair does. But remember, it's not what your taking pictures with, it's what you're taking pictures of.

Happy shooting, and be sure to post in Photo of The Day!
