    Topic says it all, really.
I noticed yesterday that I could still ping the ipod 10 minutes after it should've been in sleep mode. I woke up this morning, and the iPod was off... Odd. Started it, enabled "numeric battery" in SBSettings and it showed 2%. It was 80%+ when I went to bed last night... I can only assume Wi-Fi is responsible for this.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? I jailbroke as soon as I verified everything was restored and working (i.e. within half an hour) so I don't know which is to blame.

Uh, yeah, except it's supposed to be automatic... You know, so you don't have to enable/disable wifi a dozen plus times a day...

Yer, its to do with allowing background VOIP services or something. Like if you have skype open so you can receive skype calls when your iPod is asleep.

Yeah, but as far as I know, I don't have any such programs.
I just tried a clean reboot, didn't go past the lock screen: still the same behaviour.
It can't be supposed to be like this (all the time) - you literally have to charge it every night or it'll be dead in the morning.

All the helpful bods saying "just turn off the wifi before bed" or "turn off your iPod at night" Are completely failing to get the point.

Before 4.0, when your ipod went to sleep, wifi self disabled, thus saving battery. Now it stays on, eating battery. Of course you can turn off wifi, or turn off the ipod, but should you have to do this now? It is a pain, and if you forget, when you wake the thing up after 12 hours you need to recharge it.

A setting to control this activity without having to jailbreak would be helpful:

    option 1: Wifi Off
    option 2: Continuous Wifi
option 3: Wifi only on in Wake mode, off in sleep mode

it's weird because i left my ipod on over night last night(barely bought it)and the battery was hardly drained when i woke up in the morning. I'm not jailbroken though.

I think the point they're trying to make is, that as of now there isn't anyway to do what you want. Its either turn it off, or keep it continuously on.

They're not trying to annoy you or anything. Its just the way apple made it.
