I'm making this thread to help people who are having a hard time comprehending why we won't be allowed to make apps for the app store that allow theming and the such.

A while ago, when searching for colleges, I went to Western Carolina University. They are a certified Apple repair center. They also have an Oxford laser (for engraving).

Western Carolina proposed to Apple that they could engrave MacBooks, putting people's names and other stuff of the like on them to help with identification. From what one of the head IT guys at Western told me, the idea was sent to Apple and got passed up the administration ladder. Until it landed on Steve Jobs' desk.

Steve Jobs said something like this: "I don't want my products defaced." Basically, no to engraving.

So this explains why we won't be allowed to change icons and other stuff on the iPod/iPhone for firmware 2.0. Steve Jobs likes to micromanage everything if you haven't figured that out already. While I am not sure, I do think that engraving on iPods is pushing the limit for him. I am sure that changing icons, backgrounds, unlock screens, and the like are way beyond his limit. I tend to think that Steve Jobs likes everything uniform.

Here's an article for you guys to read, explaining a little better the way Steve Jobs functions. It's quite long, but it is a good and interesting read.

I would have put that in my original post, but I wasn't sure. I vaguely recall the IT guy saying something about Western engraving iPods, but I can't confirm this 100%.

Steve Jobs is a revolutionary person who helps us all. Without him, we would all be worshipping the Dell Computer.

    Go Jobsy!

Steve Jobs wants everything uniform. Coming from the man who does not wear a full suit to his conventions
