    Why is it Pwnable(yet)

its simple...when you pwn an ipod/iphone, it patches your flash through a hole during its boot...so this is more specific to the boot of the device, and not the software it is running. So apple got smart and on the new iphone 3g fixed this "hole" during its boot, so the current method of pwning is now usless on the iphone 3g. However, there is always hope so don't worry.(as much as you think they are, apple isn't perfect

    EDIT:
there is hope for the mighty pwn!

Why the iphone 3g is possibly jailbreakable

Opposite from pwning, jailbreaking your device is more related to the software it is running. So as long as we can find a break in the firmware, it can be easily jailbroken, and since our wonderfull safari is incredibly weak and easy to hack, there will be no shortages of kernal access. i.e. we ain't dun jailbreaking just cause dang 2.0 er out. The only problem of jailbreaking arises when we come to the part of activating the phone. On the origional iphone this just meant a short plug-in to itunes and done(or ziphone), but now that you can only activate them at an apple or at&t stores, it could spell bad news. Fear not, rumours have it you can still possibly activate the iphone 3g over itunes.

hope this helps those with these questions!

Can you speculate on the boot device hole that has been fixed?

i remember reading an article somewhere like gizmodo or engadget, in which they didn't specificly state it, but the surley hinted the iphone 3g isn't pwnable...the rest of it is pretty obvious if you base it on facts we already know about jailbreaking and pwning.

sorry, even if they didn't, do you seriously think apple would release a whole new device will all of the loopholes of its previous version.(only nintendo is stupid enough to do so)
But i am positive i read it somewhere, i never said it was specificly gizmodo or engadget, i was just giving common examples.
