    Who cares...?

Its just for when youre by yourself, and its quiet around you, you can use it instead of headphones.

Remember people that its an iPod.

The 3G will most likely have a louder speaker but I dont know why theyre trying so hard to turn the iPod touch into an iPhone. Camera? Internal Microphone? Come on now.

    ITS AN iPOD

The speaker actually sounds amazingly decent when I'm by myself in a quiet room. I use it when I don't want to deal with the hassle of finding headphones and putting them in and dealing with all the wires.

And the speaker is probably mono.

why does it matter if its mono or stereo? even if it is stereo, the speakers would be like a milimeter apart, so you wouldnt hear the difference anyway. it would only matter on something like a laptop...
