Why is iRecovery required to send "run rs"?

    In the title.

I've wondered this for days and my searching has come up with vague results.

There was a thread about it, but I can't find it again. It stated that the calculator didn't require it because it had the drivers or something?

    Yes, very vague.

Also, will it ever be possible to boot an iPod without LibUSB and iRecovery? They seem like they are definantly needed. I can understand why you need LibUSB, but no iRecovery.

    Should be a quick answer.

    Thanks.

You don't have to use iRecovery exclusively, but you have to have something to start a shell with iBoot. Then you are simply telling it to run the "rs" command that is stored in non-volatile storage.
