The slowness in some older generation devices is known to apple. The official response from them is they're looking in to it. So until they fix it in some future update, you'll just have to wait. You can also try rebooting the phone, some user's report that it helps.

    Try iMemory Enhancer.

    Source is www.gumballtech.com/cydia.

It'll increase your RAM up to 80-95MB.

Make sure you reboot after you install it in Cydia.

Remove the desktop overlays? Disable launchdaemons you don't need?

Uninstall it. It just makes your iPhone's SSD work more, which shortens it's life by alot.
Uninstall any Themes you have on there.
    Deactivate Multitasking
    Tweak the HomeScreen Wallpaper GFX
    Remove Launch Deamons

And by then it shouldn't lagg anymore. My iPod Touch 2G MB doesn't lagg @ all.
