It seems about 80% of the people I ask if they know how to turn their iphone/touches off they say "You mean like sleep mode?" or if I try explaining tethering "Tethering is dumb, your itouch auto-turns off!" Then I have to explain sleep mode. It seems people are out of touch with technology and afraid to take risks.

Can you turn your iphone off?

some times its not just a case of the off button. you may find sometimes they just wont turn off. i for one lost total control of the touch screen after a jailbreak attempt (it wouldnt recognise touch) and had to put it into dfu then re jailbreak

There is no such mode as off. Sleep, as you call it is as off as it gets. I am speaking of a standard non-jail broken model.

To clarify my other post, the touch cannot ever be truly off because then it could not respond to a user as the on/off button controls running firmware, which means it is not off.
