Why does the new iPhone even have a compass?

    If you have a GPS app that can see where you are now and see where you are in 5 seconds time, it can tell you which direction you have moved in without the need of a compass!!

    The magnetomoeter can detect the angle and position of your iDevice in 3d space. That has hundreds of potential applications bounded only by a developer's creativity.
