21:28:22 (~cmw) it's impossible to brick a touch (without dropping or shocking it)
21:28:29 (~cmw) dfu sits in the bootrom
    21:28:34 (~cmw) you can't modify the bootrom
21:28:43 (~cmw) hense you can always drop into dfu and reflash your firmware/bootloader
21:28:51 (~cmw) what you guys are confused on is
21:28:57 (~cmw) there is 2 bootloaders on the iPhone
21:29:06 (~cmw) one on the sl5 chip (the main cpu)
21:29:14 (~cmw) thats the one pwnage flashes... iboot
21:29:23 (~cmw) then there is another one in the infinity gold chip
21:29:51 (~cmw) version 3.9/4.6 are refering to the infinity gold chip
21:30:00 (~cmw) which is the gsm chip where the baseband resides
21:30:22 (~cmw) you CAN brick the infinity gold chip (Well the nor...)
21:30:44 (~cmw) but that will just kill your wifi/gsm on the iPhone
21:30:57 (~cmw) it will still boot and work as a mp3 player

21:31:07 (~cmw) you can't brick your iPhone or iTouch with pwnage
    21:31:09 (~cmw) it's impossible

    That's all.

Ask him if there any tools that will allow you to flash your bootloader.

    Yay for being right.

I KNEW Apple wouldn't put every pre-OS thing on one chip.

All those bricking claims were made by new people... I'm gonna assume they don't know how to REALLY force an iPod into DFU.

I'm not sure it's necessarily that they don't now how. I think it's just a convergence of several different events that coalesced into a broken ipod.

Also, for the OP, where did you get this info? How do you know this for sure?
