OK so obviously it would be time consuming to reinstall all the apps from cydia from a 3.0 device to a 4.0 device, and not to mention that some wont even work

so developers / hackers i say we should bring iOS4 down a notch

lets bring the cool features, we have winterboard and backrounder, and the new features werent that great

All that seems interesting is FOLDERS, that is the best feature, ive been searchin through ssh to find the file, because we need to ssh it into our lower FW idevice its so unique

so if anybody wants to help let me know
and agree if you like the idea

I don't think that will happen but someone could create a knock-off of it.

It is possible, but it will never be done. iOS 4 is great and jailbroken apps that want to last will be ported to the new iOS. Otherwise new ones will be made since the iDevice scene is only getting bigger.

Use categories, but make your own icons. Trying to add iOS 4 modules doesnt seem right. Those devices are dying off. Trying to mock the folders just doesnt seem all that useful. There will be the entire iOS 4.0 able to be installed on 1G devices sooner or later, but it would require 3rd party applications to install onto iDevice.

Categories I will admit does not graphically look as nice as Folders in iOS 4.
It does the job though. With most themes having custom folder icons if you name them right it shouldn't matter. Your idea seems great, but not many devs will waste time on older device unless they have on and are too poor to buy a new one.

Folders isn't just some sort of file you get off of 4.0, copy to your 3.0 device and expect it to work. Although they run on the same device, 4.0 and 3.x are completely different firmwares.

It's like taking an app from Android, copying it to your iPod and expect it to work. You will have to re-write folders as a mobilesubstrate addon, but since there are already alternatives like CategoriesSB, this would be pointless.
