Does anyone know who this is? I know he's the guy who planted apple seeds in the past but why does Apple use this name in the iPhone ads? This name is also on the iPhones at my Best Buy too. I did a little search and all I found out is that its some sort of symbol.

Johnny Appleseed is a cultural icon/symbol that's very recognizable. It also has the Apple name in it.

Johnny Appleseed (September 26, 1774 – February 18, 1845), born John Chapman, was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. He became an American legend while still alive, largely because of his kind and generous ways, his great leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance he attributed to apples.

No it's screen-shots on some of the apps on the app store. And it has the name there.

It's also the default caption on many of the name entry fields on an iDevice, such as when setting up a Mail account. I always thought the reason was "John" is a common, neutral name (in terms of culture, not gender), and "Appleseed" is where Apples come from. It's original. I don't think it was really meant to have a connection to the person (except for the apple planting aspect).
