No, they will become less innovative and possibly more expensive.

The end effect is mostly towards consumers.

We don't care, Apple does. What Apple is trying to do is put a head on the steak to send a message to everyone else. Apple has quite a few steaks set up... Each device shot down is just another head. I agree that Apple does have a right to protect its design aspects. However, the way they are doing it is a little too aggressive.

I agree with what this guy is saying about how Samsung copying is a good thing for Apple. It makes sense that it would just push Apple to create even better products faster, but I also think that deliberately copying someones design is low, sad, pathetic, and wrong. Apple invests millions in Ive's and his crew to create these designs and then it's just unfair for someone like samsung to just rip of years of work. To be honest, if samsung would spend more time focusing on creating it's own designs and improving their products instead of copying, they could probably mean some serious competition and we, as the consumer, would get even more amazing products to chose from and innovation could shoot up even further, faster. Idk, those are my two cents in the matter.

I have noticed a growing popularity in Samsung in 2012. People liking the Samsung page on facebook, more people aware of the Galaxy S line up and more people with those phones. It's almost like, if someone hates Apple or can't get the iPhone get a Samsung device since it's so similar.

Coming from somebody who was iPhone-mad since iOS 1.0, I recently switched to a Samsung Galaxy 3, and while I agree to a certain point that it looks somewhat like the iPhone, the devices (at least as of the Galaxy 3, the 2 was still too iPhone-esque) I can say are entirely different. For one, they feel cheaper. Are light, perhaps extremely so when compared to the heftier, more expensive feel of an iOS device. And the OS is laggy and often confusing. Yes yes, Jelly Bean may/will fix the OS lag and confusing layout, but I'm not holding my breath.

In short, Samsung DID copy Apple. But, I'm going to go out on the thinnest limb of a tree and say that it doesn't really matter. The iPhone innovated. People want(ed) a slice of that pie, hence the clones that flooded the market. The next phone to innovate, will be copied. Regardless of the circumstances.

You must really dislike Apple then for copying from Xerox, Mitsubishi, LG, Google, and even Cydia apps. It's best for consumers to get rid of the broken US patent system and allow technology to be copied and enhanced by competition. We could be so much farther ahead if it weren't for these government backed monopolies.
