Hi, after a lot of comparing and testing the phones out, I still need some help, and hopefully someone here can set me straight.

It's come down to either the Curve 8530, or the Droid. The BlackBerry would be free, and the Droid would be around $50. I'm coming from a Voyager now, so either of these will be my first smart phone.

    Things to keep in mind:
-Internet isn't a main selling feature, but apps like Facebook and Twitter are.
-I have an iPod Touch, so I don't need a game machine.
-I tried texting on the Droid today and the top row of keys felt a little cramped, is that a problem or will I get used to it?

    Question time!
    1) Since the Curve 8530 (supposedly) won't be able to get 6.0, what features will I miss out on if I decide to get the BlackBerry?
    2) Which device will last me longer, without feeling outdated and old, and last easily until my next upgrade in two years?
    3) I text and check my email a lot, which device has better battery life?
    4) Is there any difference in call quality?

Any advice you can offer will be great, thanks!

i would say the droid. i have no experience in blackberrys, but i know they aren't the most user friendly device. android, is a blooming, fast changing OS. 3.0 should be out by the end of this year. the droid will most likely be upgraded to it. if not, you can always root it.

texting on the droid is different, but like any new phone you get adjusted pretty quickly. i hate blackberry keyboards, i have small thumbs and it's still a pain.

    1. lots of new good things. the webkit browser, which is what every mobile device uses nowadays.
    2. i have to say the droid, there's a HUGE fanbase, and many android forums with support for everything you need.
    3. i couldn't tell you this, my friends droid got around 4-5 hours of use with him getting constant notifications from IM services and facebook. i bet if you turn those off and just text you'd be fine for a whole day.
    4. again, i couldn't answer this. sorry

There will be custom roms, but I doubt it will run well on the Droid 1. I've got 2.2 on my G1 and it's pretty slow. I assume that's how 3.0 will be like on the Droid.

    On topic: Get the Droid.

Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.
