I haz a predicament. Please read this thoroughly and don't just pick the option you want, pick which one is best for the described usage.

I want to develop iPhone/iPod touch apps, so i need OS X. I've been pondering my options for quite a while now, and I've totally given up on choosing for myself.

    Option 1: Hackintosh Desktop

For about $500 i can build a blazing pc (3.06 ghz quad core, 8gb ram, epic graphics card, etc) and install leopard on it.

    Pros:
    • Blazing fast
    • Inexpensive when compared to a mac
    Cons:
    • Apple won't like me, and when i develop I'd be working for freaking Apple.
    • Some hardware is untested=may not work.
    • Once again, not official, questionably legal.

    Option 2: Hackintosh laptop

I really want a portable. A lot. i'm willing to sacrifice some power for portability.

    Pros:
    • Portable (this is a huge + in my book)
    • Netbooks cost much less (if i choose a netbook)

    Cons:
    • Much less power when compared to a similarly priced desktop (when considering netbooks.)
    • Same as option 1

    Option 3: Get a Mac

This option makes a lot of sense, but i have a money issue.

    Pros:
    • Officially official (i can't get into any trouble with apple)
    • Hardware is 100% supported (everything will "just work")
    • It's a mac!

    Cons:
    • Money
    • My Dad is a hardcore pc lover, super anti-mac. :/

My budget is approx. $500. Now, depending on which option you choose (out of 2 or 3), please suggest an example. For example, if i chose option 3, I'd say "Get a mac mini because it costs less or wait until there is a lineup refresh"
For option 2, please suggest a laptop with a 2.2 + ghz core 2 duo or athlon X2 processor.
Well, there you go. Help meh

At first i'd recommend a Mac but the hakintosh laptop wouldn't be too bad. But beware just because its cheap doesnt mean its gonna work. My mom has a cheap laptop and its the biggest heap of SLOW **** ever. Same goes for option one. Ive used a lot of pc and they all get sluggish and slow after a few years, or straight out of the box in some cases

. Dont get me wrong though.
If you can afford it you should get a mac. They are_expensive but your paying for quality.
If you are a student be sure to check out apples store for students.

Option 1, because Apple can't tell if you're on a Hackintosh when you develop apps. Hell, someone got an app on the App Store that was developed on a PC. Also, it'll be faster than the other two options by a wide margin.

I would go with option 1.

Make sure your getting an Intel processor.

Otherwise AMDs are a pain to hackint0sh.

And it wouldn't be illegal if you take one of those Apple stickers and place it on your machine

For a desktop, I'd say go with a PC and just hackintosh it.

For a laptop, I'd have to go with a Macbook Pro, even they're pretty expensive. It really depends on what you're looking for. Portability vs. Blazing Desktop
