Ok this may be a fatuous poll but being a noob here I can ask this stuff! I may be showing my total ignorance but so be it. I have a choice (via WIN PC) to upload 4.2.1 IPSW either via current release Snowbreeze or greenpoison. The questions is: is there a better one? I just want (in this order)
    Reliability then performance

The ability to locally back up all my data and IOS without itunes would be wonderful. Your thoughts?

Well that was a total waste of time and a huge backward step. I managed to get a straight restore of apple IOS yesterday via freshly installed itunes. I then vv quickly (3 minutes) ran greenpoison and that worked. I was on high. Today I thoughts I'd install a fresh 421 via snowbreeze. FAIL!! Big problem. Find wall and proceed to hit head against wall continuously for minutes on end! It created the modded ipsw and got ipod into pwned DFU mode prior to itunes doing its thing. I then get 1603/1 error rom itunes and it will not install wither the modded IPSW or even a std IOS. What is it about itunes that makes it so awful for the above? I've not come full circle in 12 hours from s**t to heaven and back to s**t all courtesy of the whims on itunes. WHY is itunes such a pieces of s**t?

Neither is more 'reliable' than the other. They use the same exploits. Greenpoison is much more straight forward, as you have discovered.

So people choose Snowbrz solely because it is extra customisation and/or features? Anyway, its all rather irrelevant now as itunes seems to want to deny me access and thus use of my ipod. What a great company - churning out apps that block one from their hardware.

Maybe people use snow breeze because you can build the firmware with all the jailbreak tweaks/apps already in it, to save setting up again. I've used it before with success, but didn't find it any better of a method. Have you edited your hosts file at some point? It may interfere with the restore process.

Have you ever opened TinyUmbrella on your computer? It screws up the hosts file by default.

Yes I think so. No one has addressed my genuine query about why Itunes is such a POS? Working perfectly one minute, total destruction the next. This is like going back to cpm80 days in terms of hands on required. I thought Apple sold itself on being easy or is it all form and hype beats reality?

I'll admit I hate how itunes hogs memory, especially on windows. Although if you do everything right, you will have no issue with itunes, its not purposely set up to screw you over, you are doing something wrong, and that something is most likely to do with the host file. I'll leave valleyforge to explain that one, I cant remember where its stored.
