    Hi Guys.

First post here...hopefully someone can help me out.

Im thinking of getting myself a new iPod touch in the next week or so (I think i deserve a christmas treat for myself...

    ).
I think i would be looking to get the 8 or 16gb version, as I dont think i would have much use for any extra capacity.

    So, my questions are:
    1. what generation touch would that be? I've googled etc, but all the answers i find seem to contradict themselves.
As far as I can tell, the only ones which are 3g are the 32/64gb versions, which would make my new 8gb a 2g, right?

    2. Also, if it is a new 8gb 2g, i would be able to jailbreak WITHOUT it becoming teathered wouldnt I?

Thanks in advance for any replies, i'm sure you guys have probably answered this hundreds of times before...I just cant seem to find it.

Great forum btw, I'll definitely be returning when I get my touch!

i think you can get a 8gb 3G, and it would most likely be a 3G ipt i think.

thanks for the replies guys...so that would mean that, if jailbroken, the device would become "teathered"?

Yes it would be tethered. You would need to run blackra1n anytime you needed to reboot or turn on your iPod.

A tethered jailbreak isn't too bad. Just don't turn off your iPod and it's fine.

Is it worth jailbreaking if tethered? i take it as long as i dont fully switch off the ipod it would be ok?

Also, if I restore it through itunes (ie, back to apple settings) would it become "untethered" again?

Yes, it would be unjailbroken. You will lose all of your jailbroken apps/mods and have to reinstall them if you rejailbreak.

thats great, i just wanted to make sure i *could* return it to be untethered if needed.

Is there any sign of an "untethered" jailbreak for the 3g yet? I read on one forum that it would never happen

Well whoever said it would never happen doesn't know what they're talking about.

A dev team is working on the untethered jailbreak and will release it once the next iPhone is released next year in June/July. You will have to deal with the tethered jailbreak for a while, but it's not as bad as it seems.
