My cousin works for Apple and he strongly recommended that I hold the home button to fully close my applications. He said that otherwise, you're just tabbing out of the application. Does this apply to all applications? I've seen this tip posted on several other websites as well.

For Safari, Music, and Mail. Those 3 can run in the background. not too sure about videos.

Music and Video are the same app. But, yes official Apple apps you should hold the home button for about 10 seconds to "crash" the app. It is really a rigged up way of doing it, as it just crashes the app, but either way. Always fully exit Safari.
